From the Novel ‘Calling Sehmat’
Alia Bhatt’s Raazi is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel ‘calling Sehmat’. It is to be noted that the Novel ‘calling Sehmat’ was originally inspired by true events. It is a cross-border spy drama.
Alia was my first choice – Meghna
In a recent interview, Meghna Gulzar said that she wouldn’t have made Raazi if Alia Bhatt hasn’t accepted to do the protagonist. Meghna claims that, Alia Bhatt is her only choice for Raazi.
On answering what made her to cast Alia as the protoganist Meghna said that, ‘the moment she was roped in to direct the movie the only face that popped was Alia Bhatt and that has never changed’. She added that ‘with all due respect to other actresses, no one else could have fit into the role as Alia did’.
Talking about the movie Vicky kaushik praised Alia by saying that, she is one of the finest actors he has ever seen. She is versatile, spontaneous and organic. She feels what she performs which creates magic on screen.
“As a human being, she is so easy going, she is a very genuine person, and we bonded really well during the shoot”. Vicky also claims that, she is always her real self. Vicky plays a Pakistani officer in the movie.
I ‘m not a naturally gifted actor – Alia
Talking about the movie Alia said, she takes all her roles as a challenge and gives her best to portray the character. She added that, she was highly excited to do ‘Sehmat’ as it was a real life character and it needs a lot of responsibilities to pull off a roll like this.The 25 year old added that ‘nothing comes naturally to me. I am not saying acting is a terrible procedure. It’s a challenge. But the process is such that you don’t have to take it seriously. Just let it flow naturally in you as a character and not as an actor’.
Alia added that ‘you don’t have to be a strong and forceful demeanour to look like a spy. Sehmat is very quiet, feminine and scared. She is graceful, soft and strong at the same time. I went on to watch a lot of films to get the Sehmat’s character. I just had to stay true to the situation to pull off Sehmat. ‘
Reports claim that, the movie will open big for the kind of content it has. With promotions in full swing the movie is all set to release on May 11.
